Colors for 2016 and Functionality in Design

Color for 2016

For the first time we have two colors, not one, for the year.  According to Patone the colors are rose quartz and serenity. Click here to understand more about Patone Color Institute.

stylecaster.com has lots of ideas on how to use rose quartz and serenity in your home.

It's all about Functionality and Design

Coat and Key Hooks Entryway Organizer Mail Storage Sunglasses Storage Coat Rack Extra

As discussed in my last post this is the time of year for organizing.  You don't have to sacrifice functionality for design! MidnightWoodworks on Etsy has this "Coat and Key Hooks Entryway Organizer Mail Storage Sunglasses Storage Coat Rack Extra" on sale for $130.00. I highly recommend browsing Etsy for more organizational design

On Etsy you have the ability to compare product and pricing from hundreds of businesses, but sometimes in order to get the best bang for your buck you need to do your homework! Take these coat racks for example, the first one I found (and let be honest I love the first one way more, you get what you pay for)at domino.com, I continued to search by google image for something similar but less expensive, and I found the second one at Target for a 1/3 of the price!

INTRODUCTION: Home Decor Trends and Things

Introduction: What to expect From this Blog

My blog will highlight Instagram accounts worth following, such as @newdarlings.  All pictures on today's blog are from their home, which I found on domino.com.  I will be highlighting a lot of decor from domino, I am obsessed with their site!  Domino has home decor for sale, their blog, featured blogs, and articles from their magazine.  I love that from the blog and articles, you will see pictures of gorgeous decorated rooms, and then look-a-like items or the actual items for sale listed to the right. (They make it very convenient to shop!)  You can expect a link to everything!

I will also share all the latest trends, such as, the blanket ladder pictured above! (Why didn't I think of that?) This look is everywhere right now, and it should be!  How fab is it?!  Functionality, and style, yes I think so!  This is perfect for everyone ; it can fit behind a side table, plus now you actually have a great way to display your throws. (We all have throws, now they just need to match the decor)

Also on trend, towel ladders, as in, the one found here at Ikea, for $79.99 and it allows the towels to dry faster because they don't touch the wall or each other.

I wanted to use this home's "southwest minimalist" style for my first blog because it shows everything you can expect from this blog! Things to expect from this blog are: Instagram accounts you should be following, websites you should be surfing, current trends (such as, blanket ladder, minimal decor, THAT RUG! I DIE!, mid-century furniture), how to incorporate personal touches, and polls/quizzes. (quizzes to begin next blog)

These particular pictures below, still from the same home, show many items that are trendy right now.  First, the arrows can be found on domino for $79.99, (they are everywhere) you can also search etsy.com and find some for as low as $30 for twice as many (also when you click the link for etsy.com, you will find a super cute arrow drawer knob, you got to at least look, again waaay cute). Second, the bronze rhino, animal figurines are popular right now, especially in a metal. *Side note* Did you know you can mix metals now? Bronze, copper, brass, gold and silver, in fact I am very fond of this copper waste-basket. (It used to be a no-no) On the second shelf they have a bottle of black tipped matches, so simple you can make it yourself, or if you want the cute bottle, it's only $15.99. Other touches include stacked books, which add decor, as well as show off your book collection, which by the way is just one of many ways to add your own personal touch and make it "your space". Plants are a given, well they should be, they add life to any space.  And, you can always put them in a special home-made pot, another personal touch.

As far as the second picture, this time of year you can find organizational items everywhere (they know that everyone has vowed for the new year to get organized).  Next blog I will highlight several sites to find functional and stylish organizers, however, I wanted to point it out now because most sites have it all 20-30% off, so don't wait.  Of course you don't want to miss the unique items I have found, so stay tuned!!  Make sure to visit domino.com and check out the rest of the pictures from this home as well as click on all the pictures to see what you can purchase.  Speaking of stylish functionality, this hat/coat rack is useful in every entry way.  The idea is to have stylish items hanging from it, and it will feel like they were meant to be there always.

There is so much more to talk about, so next time let's talk about: colors for 2016 and different style types. What is your style? I'll have the quiz for you to see if you know your own style, and so much more!

Also, What did I miss?  Did you see a trend in these photos I didn't mention? (I Do) What do you like about "southwest minimalist" style?  Where do you shop?  Please comment, share and ask!!

Again, make sure to check  out @newdarlings on Instagram.  See more of their home, and make sure to look for how they carried their minimalist style through the holiday, very inspiring!  Also, read the article about them and their style on domino.com, it is sure to inspire!
